Guys can look plenty of places for dates
By TOM BLAKE
Special to the Register
Most people who took Economics 101 in school
remember at least one thing - the law of supply and
demand. When supplies are low and demand is high,
the price goes up.
This is why single men age 50-plus in Orange County
who say they can't find women to date baffle me.
They are in high demand, sitting on a gold mine.
With the ratio of single women to single men
dramatically favoring men beyond age 50 - more so at
60 and 70 - opportunities to meet women in Orange
County abound. All these guys have to do is get off
their duffs.

"But I don't know where to begin," said widower
John, of Huntington Beach.
In today's column, we give John and other men stuck
in neutral some places to go.
The Internet
This is the easiest place to begin. There are
thousands of older single women placing ads on sites
such as Yahoo personals, Match.com, Matchmaker.com,
Jdate.com, thirdage.com and eharmony.com.
Guys, spend a few bucks to join one or two of these
sites. Seek women in Orange County. By using the
Internet, people often find ideal mates living
within a few miles.
Internet tips: Don't look for younger women. Nothing
turns off mature women more than hearing from some
old dude who wants a Barbie in her 30s. Be realistic
and above all, be courteous, honest and a gentleman.
Volunteer
A great way tomeet quality women. Where? Your
choice.
But I would start with the Aliso Viejo Singles
Volunteers. For info: e-mail
avsinglevolunteers@yahoogroups.com. Don't sign up
unless you're prepared to do a little volunteer work
while meeting 100 classy women.
Leisure World
Widower John, you say you don't know where to go?
Grab a lawn chair, sit near the entrance to Leisure
World in Laguna Woods and hold up a sign that reads:
"Will date for love." Or, place a personal ad in the
Leisure World newspaper. Then hold on to your
toboggan, pal, because you're in for a ride with
every seat taken.
Join a Club
There are hundreds. Find one that interests you,
like the Sierra Club. Contact Donna Specht at (714)
963-6345 or e-mail donnaspecht@juno.com.
Or, how about The Inside Edge Foundation for
Education (www.insideedge.org)? It meets every
Wednesday morning at UC Irvine.
Senior Centers
There are nearly 30 in O.C., filled with wonderful
women who would love to have a cup of coffee with
you. Call the county's Office on Aging at (800)
510-2020 for locations. Or try the Mission Viejo
Center for fun activities.
Libraries
Check your local library for a list of
presentations, always attended by women.
Barnes and Noble bookstores (www.bn.com) in Aliso
Viejo, Costa Mesa/Metro Pointe, Fullerton,
Huntington Beach, Orange and the Tustin Market Place
also have special events. Call or stop by for an
event calendar. In Aliso Viejo, contact Nanette
Heiser (949) 362-9665.
Day trips
Marge's Tours (e-mail margestours@cox.net) operates
day trips from Orange County. Next: Nov. 13, to San
Diego to visit the aircraft carrier USS Midway.
Always nice women along. Contact Marge at (949)
830-7791.
Go Dancing
My Web site lists at least four places in Orange
County: www.findingloveafter50.com (click on Orange
County Activities at the bottom of home page).
Single women love to dance, and that's where you'll
find lots of them.
Cal state fullerton cle
The Continuing Learning Experience is a university
support group of more than 700 retired and
semi-retired members. Free lectures this fall and
winter. For more information, see

Final words
Guys, here's how to mine your gold: Get busy. Treat
women with respect and have a nice appearance -
clothes cleaned and pressed, hair combed, freshly
shaven. Don't seek sex too soon and don't flake out
on dates and social commitments.
